Friends In A Yellow Submarine

Music

Fill 4 glasses with different quantities of water. Add yellow dye or food colour to each of the glasses.

Order the glasses from high to low sounds.

Play the song and use a pencil to tap the glasses in time to the beat (steady pulse) or rhythm (the short and long sounds that fit over an underlying beat). Try and match the pitch (the degree of highness or lowness of a note) of the song.

Piaget's theory - fill two same sized glasses with a similar amount of water. Ask children - do both glasses have the same amount of water? Tip one glass of water into a long narrow glass and ask children do both glasses have the same amount of water?
