The Wheels On The Bus

Music

Tone Colour is the specific sound quality of a voice or instrument. What sounds can you make with your voice? Shouting, singing, whispering, humming, whistling. Experiment with found sounds to create: wheels turning, window wipers, a horn, doors opening and closing, babies crying, bus driver's voice.

Play the instrumental version of the song and invite individual children to sing a verse each.

Drama

Create a bus scene, line up chairs in a way that resembles a bus (two chairs on each side). Each child has a set character e.g. an old man, a business woman, a baby.

Have a roving reporter who asks the characters questions e.g. where are you going? Where have you been? How old are you?

Role-play a situation where you are rushing to catch a bus...

Dance

Create body movements to match the sound effects of the song e.g. beep, beep, beep- twirl around; babies crying - shake entire body; wipers - sway body from side to side etc.

Clapping the beat - students clap to a beat set by the teacher, then tap knees, tap shoulders, tap the floor. Then try walking the same beat. You can vary it using other forms of locomotion.

Draw or paint a bus.

Sing and read along to the YouTube song to achieve multi-sensory learning "Do it, see it and hear it!"

Print out the song PDF

Read the song lyrics - ask children a variety of questions.

Re-read the song lyrics and ask children to join in.

Recognise and use a variety of punctuation when reading. " " ! ? . ,

Look at print and conventions (bold, italics).

Talk about interesting/challenging words and discuss what they mean.

Word study - phonic knowledge, compound words, rhyming word, contractions etc.
