Music
The tempo is the speed of the beat. Listen to the song. Ask children does it sound as if the horse is galloping or trotting along? Trotting.
Play a beat to match the speed of a horse walking; trotting and galloping. Teacher can use a drum, ruler on a desk, clap hands etc. Children guess if the horse is walking, trotting or galloping.
Teacher plays the varying beats and children can move around the class according to the speed of the beat. If space is limited they can do the movements on the spot.

In what way have horses been useful for people? E.g. ploughing fields; police horses; racing horses; horse and cart etc.
