Music

Intro: When you hear the numbers show your fingers to count along.

Divide the children into two groups. Allocate a sound source e.g. use rhythm sticks, tap the floor or desk, play a drum or back of a bucket slap thighs etc.

One group plays along to the beat (the steady pulse) of the song and the other group plays to the rhythm of the song (short and long sounds that fit over an underlying beat).

Play the song again and children swap so they can feel the difference between the beat and the rhythm.

Ask children to put their hands behind their back and say “show me ten fingers?”
