Train Medley

Music

• Listen to the tempo of the song - ask children to identify the section of the song when the beat goes faster?

• Choose an instrument, found sound (e.g. tap a pencil on the floor) or body percussion (slap knees) to play along to the beat of the song.

Drama

• "Faster/Slower Louder/Softer". Children keep a beat on their knees. A leader uses conducting signals to make the beat go faster and louder, slower and softer.

Visual Arts

• Construct a train using a variety of materials e.g. boxes, bottle tops...

Literacy

• Sing and read along to the YouTube song to achieve multi-sensory learning "Do it, see it and hear it!"

Print out the song PDF

• Read the song lyrics - ask children a variety of questions.

• Re-read the song lyrics and ask children to join in.

• Recognise and use a variety of punctuation when reading. " " ! ? . ,

• Look at print and conventions (bold, italics).

• Talk about interesting/challenging words and discuss what they mean.

• Word study - phonic knowledge, compound words, rhyming word, contractions etc.
